Design of Vroutsas embankment dam, the spillway, the diversion tunnel, the connecting tunnel with the Schinas reservoir and other secondary works
The Vroutsas dam will be regulated along with the Schinas dam. The total project is part of the general water resources management project for the island of Karpathos, and also operates as a flood protection scheme. The works include: - Vroutsas dam is a rockfill dam with an impervious clay core. - Height 21m. Crest length 272m. Crest width 7m. - Total dam volume 246.000m3 - Total net reservoir volume 256.000m3 - Maximum reservoir water surface 68.000m2 - Spillway capaciy 37m3/s, maximum width 10m
Dam and appurtenant structures final design
For this project, a series of other investigating and supporting projects were carried out, like surveying, hydrological studies, agricultural studies, geological mapping, geotechnical investigations, static and dynamic structural analysis For the design, a series of modern IT tools were used, like CAD, hydraulic and hydrological modeling software.
